How many ways does your school community address bullying? Is it working? Have you surveyed your students, parents or teachers about the issue to benchmark progress or better assess the problem? Are you liable for personally owned technology devices that are used on school property to bully or threaten? Must you address negative free speech or deleterious use of the school name in cyberspace? How much monitoring of student behavior is appropriate and what are practices that work?

Using real-world case studies as the basis for this presentation, we'll explore the answers to these questions and more to help you unearth best practices for policies, procedures, prevention and response for the growing problem of bullying. You will learn about:

  • What constitutes joking versus bullying and the identifying nuances
  • The differences between healthy adolescent development and harmful, illegal behaviors
  • How addressing certain participants in a bullying incident can make the biggest impact on ending a bullying problem
  • Appropriate school community jurisdictions for addressing in-person bullying and cyber-bullying
  • Key aspects of developing successful anti-bullying policies and procedures
  • Current anti-bullying legislation and what it means to your school and community
  • Implementing security solutions, both electronic as well as CPTED (crime prevention through environmental design) principles, that can work together as the foundation of a strong school security plan

Please join us for this one-hour presentation that will help you to better understand the depth of the bullying issue and, most important, to come away with information to help you develop or modify your own school's plan to address and combat school bullying. School personnel from all levels within K-12 will benefit from this discussion that provides the inspiration to pave the way to a safer, more respectful school community for all.
